Gluten is a complex protein found in most members of the grain family. Wheat, barley, oats, etc. Those of us that are gluten impaired have issues digesting that particular protein. Celiac Disease is the common name however this speaks of the specific autoimmune disease where the consumption of gluten causes the body to attack it's own intestinal track. It is a debilitating condition that can cause many other health related problems and if left untreated causes severe digestive damage that can lead to removal of intestines and even early death. Others simply have an intolerance where the body cannot digest the protein but does not really cause any lasting damage.

The Details

Okay, so this is the first post on this blog! I will explain a little bit of background surrounding my gluten free food search. Basically, I googled gluten free restaurants in Tulsa, OK. The Urban Spoon has an expansive list of safe places to eat for the gluten impaired. Here is the link: href="http://www.urbanspoon.com/t/58/1/Tulsa/Gluten-Free-Friendly-restaurants?page=1&sort=0"> This is (mainly) the list I plan to follow. I have some catching up to do though since I've already eaten at several places. I can already tell you that Carlee's Bakery that is on the list, no longer exists. I know this from an hour drive up and down Cherry Street in an epic search for the place lol. I grew a brain and called the listed phone number and received the terrible news. I was disappointed; I really wanted to indulge in some good gluten free bakery items. However, there IS a little coffee shop (Cherry Street Coffee Shop and Bakery) at the same address and it claims to offer gluten free options. I'll check this out some time in the future. Look for the post. Well, time to move on to reviews!
